The Palace on Wheels, India's first luxury and heritage train, was launched in 1982. It is a joint effort by Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. The concept of the Palace on Wheels was derived from the royal background of the coaches, which were originally meant to be the personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajputana, Baroda, and the Nizam of Hyderabad. The train provides luxury cabins, regal charm, and impeccable service. Fine dining meets Indian hospitality.
